How do I change the rear turn signal/brake light bulb in a 1998 Monte Carlo?

I saw 2 thumb screws in trunk, took those off, but can't get brake lense off. Is this the right thing to do?

There are three wing nuts that need to be removed to take the taillight out:

1. Remove the visible plastic wing nut retaining the tail lamp.

2. Pull back the corner of the rear compartment trim panel to access the remaining plastic wing nuts.

3. Apply light pressure to the tail lamp lens to retain the lamp in position during removal of the remaining plastic wing nut retainers.

4. Remove the remaining plastic wing nuts retaining the tail lamp.

5. Carefully remove the tail lamp assembly from the rear body panel and support the tail lamp assembly.

6. Rotate each lamp socket counterclockwise to release and remove from the tail lamp housing assembly.

Keep going. I think there are either 3 or 4 of those wing nuts inside the trunk that hold the tail light onto the body. Take all off and the lamp will almost fall off. Then either remove the socket or take the screws out and get at the bulbs.
either you twist the wiring outlet or remove screw so if one is looking at lense from outside and see no screw then try twisting the wiring inside
