i TRIED UNSCREWING THE SCREWS THAT ARE ACCESSIBLE IN THE TRUNK BUT IT WOULDNT COME OUT

you are either missing some screws or its stuck due to age, I bet you are missing some screws
I'm pretty sure that the lights come out by unsnapping the printed circuit board.
get a bigger hammer
