I have a 2008 toyota corolla, my brake light is on, what could be the reason?

It seems as though brake fluid is leaking from the left rear wheel. My from brake shoes were changed a few days ago, but my pedal still must be pushed all the way down to stop. Do you have any ideas? I bought my car in july of 2007.

well to start of you said that you own a 2008 corolla if this is correct pretty clever of you because you then go on to say that you purchased the corolla in july 2007 12 months before toyota sold the car ? next you say that you had rear shoes replaced all 2008 corolla have 4 wheel disc 's also if you had the shoes replaced did they then adjust the brakes up and bleed the system of air they should have also check if the rear cyc's had a leak or are you just guessing that there is a leak or did they just replace rear disc pads CHECK THIS OUT FIRST

The left rear wheel cylinder could be bad. There could be air in the brake lines. Fluid level could be a concern. ABS, if you have ABS could be acting up.
There is a stupid little rubber gasket under the break pedal, that, if it wears out or falls off, will prevent the break pedal from coming all the way back out (and thus keeps the break lights on). I had that happen on a Galant once .. might not be at all what you're experiencing, but pull on the break pedal an inch or two and see if the light doesn't go out. It's like a $1 part but cost me a battery until I figured it out. Cheap for a shop to fix if that's what it is .. they'll charge you a buck for the part and maybe $30 to fix it.

Leaking brake fluid could be a bad hydraulic hose or bad wheel cylinder. If you get the car up in the air and have a closer look at the back of the drum you will be able to see which it is. Wouldn't recommend that you drive the car in the meantime.
If by %26quot;brake light%26quot; you mean the warning light on the instrument panel - and you have fluid leaking from the left rear wheel - the light is trying to tell you that - duh - the fluid is LOW. the pedal being low also is an indicator. probably the fluid is so low that you have air in at least half the brake system. the system is split into to halves as a %26quot;fail safe%26quot; so - you havent lost all your brakes. you need to get some brake fluid and fill the master cylinder. that is the plastic reservoir - usually sort of white in color that is in the engine compartment right in front of the driver. in fact it connects to the brake pedal. you should see fluid in it probably only on one side because it has 2 compartments. snap off the lid and add some fluid up to the max %26quot;line%26quot;. Brake systems must NOT leak. get it to a good repair shop and get the leak fixed - and the system filled and air bled ouit.
Toyota's quality has become deplorable. Everyone chants about the Corolla's reliability. Junk. And America will soon learn this as the new models come out and fail.
